Abstract

This research was conducted in the Ngantang Sub-Regency, Malang Regency, where located on the disaster prone area of Kelud Volcano that potentially affected by tephra fall and heavy ash fall. This Sub-Regency is one of the worst affected area during eruption of Kelud Volcano in 2014. One of effort on disaster risk reduction to face pyroclastic flow which threatens on the future can be done through vulnerability analysis. The aims of this study is to determine the spatial distribution of village’s level vulnerability in the Ngantang Sub-Regency. The unit of analysis is the village. Data were collected through the image interpretation and population data survey. Image interpretation used to determine the landuse area and road network. This study mapped the vulnerability considering four types of vulnerabilities (physical, social, economic, and environmental). Spatial Multi Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) Method used as the data analysis. The results of physical vulnerability analysis there are 23 % of village categorized as high vulnerability. Social vulnerability assesment resulted that 31% of village categorized as high vulnerability. Economic vulnerability assesment resulted that 23 % of village categorized as high vulnerability, and environment vulnerability assesment resulted that 46% of village categorized as high vulnerability. Total vulnerability with 4 scenario resulted that Ngantru village are always categorized as high vulnerability.
