Abstract

In Agam Regency, the total forest area reached 56,450.96 ha in 2018. In 2019, the forest area had decreased by 297.42 ha so that the total forest area reached 56,153.54 ha. The cause of the reduction in forest area is deforestation. In the perspective of forestry science, deforestation is interpreted as a situation of loss of forest cover and its attributes that have implications for the loss of the structure and function of the forest itself. Over a long period of time, forests that convert to non-forests such as shrubs have the potential for forest and land fires. This study aims to determine the forests that experience deforestation and turn into non-forest cover. To determine the area of forest that is experiencing deforestation, this study uses the method of Visual Image Interpretation using Sentinel 2S Satellite Imagery with a spatial resolution of 10 meters. The results obtained are deforestation with a total area of 297.42 ha. Based on a direct view of the area experiencing deforestation at 100° 7’5,484 “E 0° 11’6,274” S, land cover that was previously forest has been turned into ex-fire land with an area of 1.9 ha.
