Abstract

This study aims to identify the knowledge framework fishing community in the city of Bengkulu in anticipation and disaster preparedness. The research method used is a qualitative method based on interviews and observations as data collection techniques. The findings revealed that there are two frameworks of knowledge on fishing communities in the city of Bengkulu related to disaster preparedness; framework of knowledge based on cultural inheritance and internalized knowledge framework of various external factors such as the mass media or the simulation and counseling conducted by the government and NGOs. Framework culturally inherited knowledge about earthquake preparedness one of which can be found with the use of the splint that despite rare but can still be used as an alternative to building earthquake resistant houses. While the framework of knowledge about the signs of the earthquake and tsunami will be more widely known through information-based technologies such as mass media or the tsunami sirens were installed along the coast of Bengkulu.
