Abstract

Besides the security issues, one of the common problem on border area is the drought and limited of electricity. Sulamu is one village in Kabupaten Kupang that has frequent drought, it’s caused limited clean water. Beside it the electricit there is limited. The purpose of this study is to analyze the planning of utilization of solar energy supporting the reverse osmosis system to solved the drought and limited of electricity in Sulamu Village, Kupang, NTT. The study used qulitative methods with case study approach. The results of the study showed: Based on the population growth, the total of population Sulame Village in 2029 are 6139. Clean water needs of population as much as 222.373,16 L/day or 222,37 m3 /day and drinking water arround 13 m3 / day. But, Then water needs in Sulamu village has not been fulfilled. The water needs in Sulamu can be supplied by Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) system witj teh capacity 250 m3 /day. and the drinking water can be supplied by Tap Water Reverse Osmosis (TWRO) system wtith the capacity of 12000 GPD. The pottential of annual average solar radiation in Kupang is 5,07 kWh/m2 /day, with the minimum solar radiation is 4,35 kWh/m2 /day and the maximum solar radiation is 5,87 kWh/m2 /day. Those potential can be used as solar power plant by off grid system to support the water treatment process (SWRO and TWRO) with the capacity of 14 KWp.
